My entry of the Creature Of the Week contest...this weeks theme was cave digger.
So I present....Shellfort
The Shellfort is one of the endangered spieces and also amongst one of the oldest creatuses on Earth.
It has an odd round body, which is covered with a large multilayered shell made out of chitin. The little creature feeds mainly on plants, but it can eat anything that fits under its belly. It has about 400 legs underneath its stomach designed for movement, but which are also used for grabbing it food and digging.
The Shellfort digs mainly straight down by using its many feet as miniature spades. It can also dig straight foward using the chitine plates on its forehead as a pickaxe, but that method is fairly slow.
Shellfort doesn't have any natural enemies due to its ability to survive even when an elephant steps on it, but it will die when flipped over since it is unable to flip over again.
Anyway, I think it looks great I can actually imagine this thing replacing the mole if it wasn't endagered. It somewhat remins me of Tremors cept it's not a giant worm..
How big are these exactly?

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
A collection of the most beautiful and amazing square photographs I found among my favourites. Please have a look and give these artists the attention they deserve!
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
